Sirens breaking through the stillness of the night
Jarring those sleeping from the comfort of their bed
Burning embers quickly spread with dangerous flight
Licking the hills with their flaming tongues of orange and red
Families watching as their homes burn to the ground
Memories sent to the heavens in billows of smoke
Tears etch their way down the soot stained skin they've found
Arms of neighbors and strangers become their cloak
Small voices asking parents "Where do we call home now"
While heros come sharing food, clothes, shelter, money and heart
They cling to each other and take a silent vow
They will fall together in comfort and not crumble apart
Strengthened by the love of co-workers, family, and friends
They receive blessings because of those burning embers
So much lost and so much to mend
But it's the love and charity their hearts remember
May we always remember to comfort each other and fall together. My sincere gratitude and thanks to the firefighters who have saved so many people and homes.
